12 Months Review For Money Exchange
Following a successful six months trial, councillors have opted to continue with the Eketahuna Money Exchange service and review it in another 12 months.
In a report manager community development Troy Gerbich said that “it had been a pleasure to watch the takeup and to see the very consistent support.”
Four services have been offered with the money exchange: banking deposits; Eftpos cash withdrawals; cashing of “approved” cheques; and ordering of change/floats; the latter of which has not yet been taken up.
Six months statistics show 145 deposits, 601 Eftpos transactions and 24 cheques cashed.
A new “self-serve” ATM machine in town was unlikely to adversely affect the money exchange because it operated at different hours, councillors felt.
After the initial establishment costs of $13,221, it was decided that the operating costs of $1,715 over six months were not significant.
