A frontal rainband over Fiordland and Southland is forecast to become slow moving across central New Zealand this weekend. MetService meteorologists have issued heavy rain warnings for Fiordland, Westland, Buller and the ranges of Northwest Nelson.

"This front is preceded by a warm and moist northerly flow and is likely to bring heavy rain to the Southern Alps and northwest Nelson ranges", commented Metservice Weather Ambassador, Bob McDavitt.

"Useful rain is likely to reach some of New Zealand's driest areas in the next few days. As we move into the last week of daylight saving it appears as though the anticyclones are starting to relax and rain-bearing features are starting to gradually return to parts of the country".
