Police Communications were notified of a missing male at noon today by family members.

The missing male was returning from Christchurch to Kumara overnight and had not arrived.

A road side search with the help of passing motorists located a vehicle down a bank at Otira.

The male driver was still in the vehicle with a possible broken hip.

The vehicle was on the edge of cliff and not in a stable position.

Quick action by the attending Constable and a passing truck driver secured the vehicle back to the truck to stop it going over the side.

Ambulance and Fire Service are at the scene assisting in removing the male driver from the vehicle before towing it back up onto the road.

Family members are relieved to have found him safe and reasonably well.

The driver is a 61 year old male from Kumara who will be taken to hospital for treatment.
