Fatal crash on Desert Rd

1pm -- Police are currently at the scene of a fatal crash approximately 15kms North of Waiouru.

It appears a southbound vehicle rolled at approximately 1pm, killing one of the four occupants, and seriously injuring at least one other.

There is a partial road closure in place (in the Southbound lane) - and Police are advising motorists to expect delays and exercise patience in the area.

A rescue helicopter will be sent to the scene very shortly to transport the injured person to hospital.

This is expected to cause a closure of the entire road for up to 20 minutes.

Details of the deceased or the cause of the crash are not yet known.
