Nineteen school holiday programme providers in Auckland city will receive funding from Auckland City Council's school holiday programme fund.

The fund assists providers to deliver projects that increase access to, and participation in, quality school holiday programmes.

Nandita Mathur, community services manager, says the council recognises that access to school holiday programmes is very important to parents and caregivers, children and the community.

"School holiday programme providers make a major contribution to our city. They are an integral part of providing for the well-being of children in our communities and help children to learn how to use their leisure time in a safe and constructive environment," says Ms Mathur.

Some of the programme providers that received funding this year include:

Tamaki Pathways Trust – towards a local history and environment project.
YMCA, Jordan Recreation and Fitness Centre – towards a team building and excursions project.
Migrant Support Services – towards computing lessons.
Oranga Community Centre – towards a Community Wise project.
Ponsonby Community Centre – towards a cultural awareness project.
Historically, school holiday programme funding was given from ward-based allocations with amounts varying across wards. The new contestable fund introduced last year ensures fair funding across the entire city.
