TE PUKE

Police were called to a Te Puke stream shortly after 11pm last night.

A local who had finished a late shift at work, found 5 to 7 puppies had been dumped into a local river.

He had apparently heard the yelping and went to investigate. He rescued a number from the stream but had some difficulty containing the puppies who tried to re-enter the water.

The police patrol and the good samaritan were able to cordon and contain the canines with considerable skill.

Police will at some stage hand the puppies over to local animal control who no doubt will need to locate some good homes for the puppies.

We dont know what type of puppies they are at this stage
