Anzac Commemorations for Wellington

WELLINGTON

A number of ceremonies will be held in Wellington to commemorate Anzac Day on Friday 25 April.

The Chief of Defence Force (CDF) Lieutenant General Jerry Mateparae, will attend a Dawn Service held at the Cenotaph at 5.45am, along with Wellington based New Zealand Defence Force personnel.

At the National War Memorial in Buckle Street NZDF personnel will provide a dawn to dusk vigil ceremony over the Tomb of the Unknown Warrior from 6am to 5pm.

A citizen’s service will be held at the Wellington Cathedral of St Paul in Hill Street, starting at 9.45am. NZDF will be represented at this service by Chief of Staff, Commodore Pat Williams. This service will be followed by a wreath-laying ceremony at the Wellington Cenotaph in Lambton Quay at approximately 10.30am.

CDF and senior Defence Force staff will also attend the National Wreath-laying Ceremony at the National War Memorial at 11am.

A ceremony will also be held at 1.30pm at the Ataturk Memorial at Tarakina Bay. Chief of Staff - Joint, Captain John Martin will represent NZDF. Wreaths will be laid by the Ambassador of the Republic of Turkey His Excellency Mr Ugur Ergun, and the Honorable Annette King.

An Anzac concert, We’ll meet again, will be held at the Wellington Town Hall from 7.00-8.15pm and will feature the Central Band of the Royal New Zealand Air Force and the Beat Girls.
