3pm - The weather, road works and heavier than normal traffic volumes, possibly from people returning from Whangamata's Beach Hop weekend, have combined to cause a 10km tailback, northbound, south of the Pink Pig on SH2.

There have been no reported accidents in the area and motorists appear to be coping with the conditions.

Those planning travel in the area are advised of the delays and should consider alternative routes or a delay in setting out.

Other areas from Turangi north have all experienced more vehicle crashes than usual, probably as a result of the bad weather and areas of surface flooding.

None have so far resulted in serious injury. At least three involve people driving high performance cars which have either spun out or left the road.

Motorists are advised to drive to the conditions.
