Planning Workshop to Discuss Options for Mckenzie Pool

Hutt City Council is inviting interested parties to attend a public workshop designed to discuss options for the McKenzie Outdoor Pool in Udy Street, Petone.
The public meeting is due to be held on Wednesday 14 March at the Petone Central School Hall, Britannia Street, Petone from 7:30pm – 9:00pm.
The Council has contracted David Allen from Global Leisure Group to study the pool’s future. Global Leisure Group have extensive experience in the assessment of facility related issues, such as need, use and sustainability.

Background
The development of a study into the McKenzie Pool is inline with actions agreed to in the Hutt City Swimming Pool Strategy 2005.
McKenzie Pool was opened in 1933 and currently attracts 20,000 admissions per 17-week season each year. It primarily serves the Petone community in terms of school swimming, general recreation and fitness.
A 2004 pool engineering survey completed by John Loughnan Mechanical Engineering Limited highlighted a number of large capital cost replacements that were required within the next 35 years for McKenzie Pool to continue operating.
An estimate of between $700,000 and $900,000 was indicated to rectify the deficiencies. This estimate did not include any improvement or refitting work which could be undertaken to improve or alter the focus of the services offered at the pool.
