Arrest made following serious assault on elderly West Coast man

Greymouth Police have arrested and charged a 17yr old moss processor from Dobson following a serious assault on an elderly Dobson man on Monday night.

Acting Area Commander for the West Coast, Senior Sergeant Stu Koefoed, stated that the 17 yr old youth will be appearing in the Greymouth District Court on an assault charge tomorrow with further charges pending following the results of forensics examination and further police enquiries.

The elderly victim is still in a serious condition in Wellington Hospital at present and has yet to regain consciousness. Police are still unable to release details of the victim until next of kin have been identified and contacted.
