Fatal Motor Vehicle Crash - Wainoni Road/ Bickerton St Christchurch

Police are investigating the circumstances around a motor vehicle crash on Wainoni Road just east of the intersection of Bickerton Street at 11.20 am on Wednesday 14 May 2008.

A woman pedestrian has died as a result of being struck by a car travelling Wainoni Road at this time and location.

Police have been unable to identity the pedestrian and are requesting information from the public which may assist in identifying her or who have witnessed the crash and not yet spoken to Police.

She is described as a female of European descent aged approximately in her 70's or 80's. She is likely to be blind or partially blind and was carrying a white cane.

She also wore a speaking watch and had a house key safety pinned to her clothing.

At the time of the crash she was wearing a white woollen hat, tartan trousers, black slip on shoes and a multi coloured zip up woollen jacket.
