The New Zealand Defence Force has been asked to report back to Cabinet this year with an updated proposed business case for the Royal New Zealand Air Force leaving Whenuapai Airbase between 2014 and 2018.

As part of this process officials from the NZDF, Ministry of Defence and the Ministry of Economic Development have met with representatives from significant parties in support of and in opposition to any joint military-commercial use of Whenuapai.

To finalise its business case the New Zealand Defence Force invites views of other parties not yet represented in discussions on Whenuapai.

Those parties wishing to make contributions can either write to the NZDF Executive Programme Manager, Headquarters New Zealand Defence Force, Private Bag, Wellington by 31 May, 2008.

Please note that this process is not a statutory process and completely separate from the process being conducted by Waitakere City Council under the Resource Management Act with regard to proposed plan change 22 to the Waitakere City Plan.
