Netball New Zealand has announced that Foodstuffs’ New World supermarket chain has become its new Elite Sponsor.

The sponsorship, announced today at the Vector Arena, Auckland has been confirmed for a period of three years.

Under the sponsorship agreement New World will be the Elite sponsor of the Silver Ferns, the International Test Series, the NZA and New Zealand age group representative teams (NZ under 21, under 19 and NZ Secondary Schools), and a support sponsor of the National Championships and community netball.

Steve Anderson, CEO, Foodstuffs South Island says the sponsorship is a perfect fit for New World stores, and builds on New World’s sponsorship of the Netball World Championships 2007.

“Sponsorship of Netball New Zealand is a perfect fit for New World. Both New World and Netball New Zealand are iconic New Zealand brands, and netball’s player and supporter base has strong synergies with our customer base. Many of our 131 New World stores already support their local netball clubs, and the new sponsorship agreement will allow us to further extend this support on both a local grassroots and national level.

“The sponsorship agreement will allow New World to provide a ‘total’ support package for netball, from young players playing for their local club to the Silver Ferns themselves.”

Raelene Castle, Netball New Zealand Chief Executive, says they are pleased to be welcoming a sponsor of New World’s calibre.

“We are thrilled to have New World, a New Zealand-owned and operated company, on board as our Elite Sponsor. New World gave fantastic support to netball during its sponsorship of the World Championships in 2007 and we are very pleased to be extending the relationship. A sponsorship like this is tremendous for the sport and we are excited to welcome New World to our family of sponsors.”

Netball New Zealand today also announced details of the 2008 New World International Netball Series.

Christchurch’s Westpac Arena and Auckland’s Vector Arena have been chosen to host the Australian team when they come over on the 17th and 20th of September this year and Auckland, Dunedin and Palmerston North are the three venues for the 2008 New World International Netball Series against England that will get underway in late October.

Vector Stadium will welcome the England team to New Zealand for the first Test on October 13 before the third ranked team in the world heads to the Edgar Centre in Dunedin – October 15, with their final game of the Series to be held in Palmerston North at the Arena Manawatu.
