The Turangi Visitor Information Centre has experienced a very busy three months as a result of the lingering summer weather.

In the first three months of this year, visitor numbers to the Centre were eight percent higher than for the same period in 2007, while commission sales rose 16 percent.

The Tongariro Alpine Crossing was the most popular destination for visitors with 1200 people completing the internationally renowned walk on Easter Saturday.

The Centre’s manager, Maryke Wilson, says the summer season seems to have lengthened and now stretches from late October to the end of April which has kept the Centre staff very busy.
