Missing Mirolight in Wairoa

A search has started in the Wairoa area after a mirolight failed to return.

Two local Wairoa men aged 30yrs and 39yrs left in the mirolight: decribed as an Air Sea 601 low wing mirolight coloured white with blue stripes, at 3.15am this morning for a short trip over Wairoa

A third male remained at the airfield and raised the alarm at 4.30am

The rescue co-ordination Centre are the incident controllers for this search and expect to deploy a rescue helicopter at first light. Weather in the area is very poor with surface flooding reported .
