Fatal police pursuit in Dargaville

A police pursuit lasting just 31 seconds ended with the death of the male driver, the sole occupant of a car seen speeding by a police unit in Dargaville.

The crash occurred on SH14 2kms north-east of Dargaville when the driver of the vehicle lost control on a bend beside the racecourse.

The highway has been closed as police deal with the scene.

Inspector Murray Hodson said the crash will be referred to the Independent Police Complaints Authority (IPCA).
