Man charged with raping 16-year-old girl

New Brighton Police are investigating the rape of a 16 year old girl on New Brighton Road in the vicinity of the Anzac Drive Bridge opposite the Kate Shepherd Retirement complex.

The incident occurred at about 1.50 am on Sunday the 1st of June 2008 near a green Transit road sign on New Brighton Road near Anzac Drive.

A 28 year old male has been arrested and charged with Rape and will appear in the Christchurch District Court on Monday 2 June 2008.

Police are appealing for witnesses who may have observed any activity near a green Transit road sign opposite the Kate Shepherd Retirement complex at that time. Police would like to speak to anyone who may have observed or been approached by a male wearing a white shirt and a white baseball cap on New Brighton Road around that time.

Police are also seeking any persons who may have sighted this male in the New Brighton Road/Stour Drive area at about 1.50 am on Sunday 1 June 2008 to contact New Brighton Police on 3739100.
