Serious assault at bus stop intersection of Rongotai Rd and Bay Rd, Kilbirnie

At approximately 3.40 pm on Friday 6 June 2008 a 21 year old male was seriously assaulted near the bus stop at the intersection of Rongotai Road and Bay Road, Kilbirnie.

Whilst standing beside the power box which is next to the bus stop the victim was approached by an unknown male and punched once in the face. As the victim tried to recover from the punch he was hit in the side of the head with a bottle of wine.

The victim sustained several facial lacerations that required medical treatment.

The offender is described as :
Male Maori approx 22 - 26 years of age
Approx 178 cm tall
Wearing a plain black cap or beanie, a black shirt and khaki coloured trousers

Police are interested in hearing from anyone who may have witnessed this incident or who has any information that may assist in identifying the person responsible for this assault.
