Fatal Crash on Karaka Rd

Counties Manukau, Pukekohe and Serious Crash Unit Police are dealing with a fatal crash on Karaka Road (SH22) near Blackbridge Road.

At least one person is believed to be dead inside a vehicle that caught fire in the collision and several others have been injured. Five ambulances have been dispatched.

Witnesses report that the crash occurred when an overtaking vehicle collided head-on with another vehicle.

The scene will take some considerable time to clear and there are a large number of witnesses to be spoken to in addition to dealing with the injured.

Diversions are in place in a loop to the north using Blackbridge, Muir, Lewis and Charles Roads, back onto SH22 and Glenbrook Road. The diversion has not yet been fully sign posted and motorists are strongly advised to avoid the area to avoid significant delays.
