Ram Raid/Police Pursuit in Christchurch
At about 4.04am on 18/6/08 a ram raid occurred on a Supermarket in Ferry Rd, Christchurch.
The vehicle left and about 5 minutes later there was a further ram raid on a service station on Linwood Ave.
At 4.42am a motorcar with frontal damage was seen in Central Christchurch.
A pursuit commenced when the vehicle failed to stop. Road spikes were subsequently deployed which deflated the front tyres but they still failed to stop. The road spikes were redeployed and by this time the tyres had shredded and the car was on its rims.
The car engine had difficulty maintaining any speed and could be heard to be under severe stress as the metal dug into the road and the vehicle slowed to 10km/h before stopping.
The two occupants were taken into custody and enquiries revealed the vehicle was allegedly stolen.
A small amount of food and property believed to be from the service station was found in the vehicle.
Enquiries are continuing as to whether the vehicle was also involved in the Supermarket raid.
