Serious crash in Tauranga

Tauranga police and emergency services are at the scene of a crash outside the hospital on Cameron Road.

The crash occurred just after 5.00 am when a car that had been signalled to pull over by a police patrol sped off through a red light and rolled as it swerved to avoid another vehicle pulling out from a side street.

The driver is trapped in the vehicle and his condition is thought to be serious at this stage.

The crash is being treated as pursuit-related and will be referred to the IPCA for review.

No further details are available at this stage - a full release will be made by Tauranga police later in the morning.
