Taupo District Council has been granted Government funding for an innovative project that will benefit young people in the Mangakino area.

Total funding of $80,000 has been allocated by the Ministry of Youth Development to help the Council fund a year long programme for young people aged between eight to 25 years of age – with a focus on 12 to 18 year olds.

Mangakino Community Manager Tina Jakes says the need for a youth development project was identified by the Mangakino Safer Community Group and included in its Safety Action Plan. “The $80,000 grant from the Ministry of Youth Development’s Youth Development Partnership Fund is a huge boost for the project.”

She says the funding will be used to provide supervised activities for young people to promote team work, participation, personal development, and self esteem.

Youth Affairs and Local Government Minister Nanaia Mahuta today announced the successful recipients of the Ministry of Youth Development's Youth Development Partnership Fund saying,
“I congratulate the Taupo District on securing funding. It's great to see central and local government along with the community, working together to provide new and innovative local youth development projects.”

The project will be contracted to the Mangakino Community Agency to run.
