DUNEDIN

At about 1110 hours on the 6th of July 2008 police were involved in a pursuit on Castle Street, Dunedin.

The pursuit lasted less than one minute before the offender crashed near Lower Stuart Street into the Cadbury building.

Enquiries established that the Nissan Patrol 4WD involved had earlier been stolen from a nearby business address.

No other vehicles were involved.

The driver and sole occupant of the Nissan was transported to Dunedin Public Hospital for treatment. His injuries are believed to be a suspected broken leg/s.

Hospital blood is to be obtained to assess the driver sobriety.

The Serious Crash Unit has been referred and will complete their investigation in due course.

Police are seeking to confirm the identity of the driver involved at the time of completing this press release.

The Independent Police Conduct Authority has been advised of the incident in accordance with normal police policy.

This is yet another example of an offender recklessly endangering the general public and police staff in his offending. Thankfully on this occasion the only person the offender injured was himself.
