Search and Rescue in Canterbury
At approximately 9.40pm (Sunday) Police were advised of an over due Paraglider in the Taylors Mistake area.
Officers located his car in its normal parking area and a search was commenced.
The Westpac Rescue helicopter was deployed with a Night sun lamp and crewed with a paramedic and winch operator.
After a three and a half hour search the helicopter was signaled by walkers on the Whitewash Head track, who indicated that they had heard someone at the base of a nearby cliff.
Shortly after that a 34 year old male was located and winched to safety. He had suffered only minor cuts and abrasions.
Police Search & Rescue Controller Senior Constable Paul Hughes says the man has had a lucky escape considering the terrain in the area, he also wished to thank the locals for their assistance.
