Police have been advised that a large drum of the toxic chemical has fallen from the rear of a delivery truck somewhere between Auckland and Pahiatua in the Tararua District.

The chemical, Putrol is an acid based chemical used in the treatment of timber. It is poisonous, may be fatal in inhaled, swallowed or absorbed through the skin.

The Putrol is contained in a large 200litre black plastic drum. It has the label 'PUTROL' on it along with the UN number 2586.

If anyone locates the drum avoid touching it, particularly if it is damaged, and contact the police and or fire service immediately.
