TAUPO

Taupo District Ambassadors have started hitting the streets to speak to people about what makes great neighbourhoods – this feedback will help Council to identify what needs to be included in ‘Towards 2019’ the District’s ten year plan.

The team of ambassadors will be aiming to speak to as many people as possible to collect people’s ideas, dreams and aspirations for the future of the Taupo District.

Mayor Rick Cooper said that Council have been looking at different ways to engage with the community and involve them with the ten year plan. “The Long Term Council Community Plan (LTCCP) is our flagship document and we want to make sure we are providing a vision that is representative of what our communities want, for their neighbourhoods and the future of the Taupo District.”

Deputy CEO Anne McLeod said, “Talking about the LTCCP can often put people off, but we can all relate to neighbourhoods, so it makes it more personal and easier to answer. So far the feedback has been really positive.”

“The ambassadors will be out and about over the next month so make sure you keep an eye out for them to have your say,” she said.

Another chance to collect information to feed back into the ten year plan is the Council and Community Expo - ‘Our Neighbourhood, our Future’. This is being held at the Great Lake Centre from 14 - 16 August and will provide the community an opportunity to look at what is coming up around the District.

“We want to captivate and motivate Taupo District residents to get involved with shaping the future of this District,” said Mayor Rick.

Over 40 exhibitors are taking part in the expo, representing a wide range of sectors within the community and demonstrating some of Council’s key partnerships.
