Alert: Crash - road closure in Wellington

5pm - Police are advising Wellington motorists of the closure of Aotea Quay along the Wellington waterfront.

A truck trailer has broken free from the truck and struck a lamp post. The crash is causing serious traffic disruptions to traffic trying to leave the Wellington CBD, and Police are advising motorists to take alternative routes or defer their travel.

The road will be closed to enable the removal of the trailer - which may take up to 2 hours.

Motorists heading into the city are also asked to avoid the area if possible - the closure will effect the south bound lanes for a period of time as well.
