Shooting in Northland

Police have arrested a man after a domestic related shooting in Maungaturoto, Kaipara District last night.

Police were called to a residential address in Maungaturoto at about 9.30pm last night after a man had been shot in the lower leg. The man was taken to Whangarei hospital and had undergone surgery to his leg. He is in a stable condition.

The Armed Offender Squad from Whangarei was called out and the offender was located at another address in the town. The offender gave himself up without incident at about 3.00am this morning.

A 59 year old man will be appearing in the Whangarei District Court facing serious assault charges and firearms charges.
