Serious Crash - Puwera

SH 1 has been closed following a serious crash south of Whangarei between Otaika and Oakleigh.

At this stage it appears that a northbound utility vehicle crossed the centre line colliding with a southbound utility.

Two of the three people travelling in the vehicles, a man and a woman, are reported to have sustained serious injuries.

A diversion suitable for light vehicles is in place using Maungakaramea, Ormandy and Mangapai Roads. Heavy vehicles are being held back at this stage.

No estimate for re-opening the road is presently available as it is weather-dependant.
