Seriou Crash in Whangarei

A man in his early twenties is in critical condition in Whangarei Hospital following a vehicle crash on SH1, south of Whangarei just before 4.00 pm today [Friday].

The man was a passenger in a 4WD travelling north near Otaika when it left the highway near Loop Road and drove into a ditch. No other vehicles were involved in the crash and police are not ruling out driver fatigue as a contributing factor.

The other two occupants of the vehicle were not seriously injured.

Whangarei police are interested in hearing from anyone who saw the dark blue Isuzu Bighorn vehicle travelling north prior to the crash.

The crash is in the same area as a crash yesterday that claimed the life of one person and left another with serious injuries. Northland Police wish to reinforce their message to motorists to drive to the conditions, especially with the present forecast for heavy rain over the weekend.
