An amnesty is in place for all Far North District Council libraries until the end of August.

This means library users have a month to return overdue and "lost" books, DVDs and CDs without incurring fines and also to have outstanding fines waived.

"Items can be return anonymously by simply slipping the overdue items through the library book slots. The most important message is that we want overdue items back and are prepared to overlook old indiscretions in order to achieve this," District Libraries Manager Bronwyn Hunt said today.

"Returning overdue or lost items enables others to enjoy our extensive catalogue. The amnesty also provides an opportunity for those who have been staying away from the libraries because of concerns over mounting fines to clear the slate and start afresh without penalties.

"We want to see people using our libraries again and making the most of the resources available," she said.
