Death of a new born baby in Tauranga
Western Bay of Plenty Detectives today commenced investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a new born baby.
The death has been advised to Police as having occurred at a rural property near Te Puke in the early hours of Friday morning the 8th August 2008.
Police are speaking with members of the family of the baby who are cooperating fully with Police inquiries.
A post mortem on the baby has been authorised and will take place in Auckland on Sunday the 10th August 2008.
Police will continue to carry out inquiries with witnesses, and will carry out a scene examination with the assistance of ESR scientists over the next two days.
A further media release will be made by the Officer in Charge ( as below ) on Sunday 10th August 2008 at about midday. No further comment will be made until that time.
