TE PUKE

Western Bay of Plenty Police have today completed their scene examination of a rural Te Puke property after the death of a new born baby on 8 August 2008.
The post mortem examination of the baby has also been completed. The preliminary results are inconclusive and further work is required. Arrangements are being made for the baby to be returned to family members.
The death of the baby appears to be as a result of a 'hidden pregnancy and birth'. Senior Sergeant Rob Glencross of the Tauranga CIB would not be drawn on the circumstances of this death but urged anyone finding themselves in a similar situation to seek professional help early.
The enquiry is continuing and Police will be seeking expert medical and legal advice before Police are able to finalise this enquiry. Given the complexity of the issues it may be several months before those aspects are finalised.
No further media releases will be made regarding this matter until it is finalised.
