The Turangi public toilets situated on Ohuanga Road were recently evaluated by Keep NZ Beautiful and gained a nine out of ten rating.

Barry Lucinsky, owner of Kiwiloo, CEO of Keep NZ Beautiful and a judge of Keep NZ Beautiful’s ‘Best Loo’ Competition, recently viewed the Turangi public toilets and provided a report to Council on the facility.

“Any District Council would be proud to have a public toilet in their District of the type I inspected in Turangi”, Mr Lucinsky said in his report.

He also said the building was architecturally attractive, the glass bricks generated a warm, sunny atmosphere, the ladies section was spotless and the male’s area was clean and tidy with minor damage. He suggested that more attention could be given to the plantings outside the toilet

Turangi/Tongariro Community Board Chairman Don Ormsby said he was very pleased to hear the positive review of the toilets. “We have had a couple of complaints from members of the community in regards to the public toilets so it is great to hear from a professional, that we are rating highly compared with other District’s facilities. It is important we can offer a clean and tidy public toilet facility for our community and the many visitors passing through Turangi.”
