Earthquake strikes Hawke's Bay
An earthquake measuring 5.9 on the Richter scale struck at 11.25pm on Monday evening - and was centred 10km south-west of Hastings.
Police received a small number of calls from concerned residents in the Hawke's Bay, although the earthquake was also felt in Gisborne and Wellington.
Police have not received any reports of damage, although the suburbs of Maraenui and Taradale in the Hawke's Bay are believed to have had their power supplies disrupted.
