Police officers are in attendance at Auckland Prison where they are carrying out a major investigation into recent activities by some inmates at the prison.

Search warrants are being executed in the course of these enquiries, and police are talking to several prisoners in the East and West Wings of the prison.

The police activity is linked to Operation Webb which is a combined inter agency operation involving Police, Customs and Corrections officers.

Officers began executing further search warrants at residential and other locations throughout Metropolitan Auckland as early as 7.00am this morning.

They are also in attendance at Spring Hill Correction Facility in the Waikato.

The total number of Police, Customs and Correction staff involved in Operation Webb is estimated to be 180.

Police will make further comment on the ongoing inter agency activity when the final outcome of today's operation is fully determined later this afternoon.
