Waikato fatal crash

Waikato Serious Crash Unit staff are currently at the scene of a fatal road crash near the settlement of Tahuna.

The crash, on the Tahuna-Ohinewai Rd, happened near Tainui Rd about 2.45pm and involved a single vehicle.

Initial indications on the cause of the crash, which killed the sole male occupant of the car, are that the driver lost control of his vehicle on a section of road works which was signposted with a temporary speed limit of 50 km/h.

The car crossed the centreline and left the opposite side of the road, crashing into a tree.

The Tahuna-Ohinewai Rd is currently closed to allow emergency services to clean up the scene and investigators to carry out their examination.

Diversions are in place.
