Dog Owner To Be Charged After Weekend Attack

Hastings District Council Animal Control Officers will lay formal charges against the owner of a dog which attacked a Flaxmere man on Saturday.

The specific charges, under the Dog Control Act 1996, are for the attack itself and for failing to register the dog.

Both charges carry a maximum fine of $3000.

A 59-year-old Flaxmere man was bitten twice by a 10-month-old Labrador-Pitbull cross on Saturday morning.

The man received surgery on his hand and groin and faces more surgery after the serious attack.

The owner voluntarily bought to the dog to Animal Control and it was destroyed on Monday morning.
