Fatal Crash - Update in Bay of Plenty

SH2 at Apata, just north of Turner Stewart Road is expected to remain closed until 10.00am as police and emergency services clear the scene of a fatal crash.

Two cars, each with a single occupant, collided head on at about 6.20am. The elderly woman driver of one of the cars was killed and the other, a 33 year old man, is in Tauranga hospital with moderate injuries. The dead woman is believed to live locally.

A one-lane diversion has been opened across farmland to clear traffic caught up at the scene. The diversion is able to be used by trucks but there are significant delays and people are still advised to use the Kaimais as an alternative route.
