Two Trophies for Mud House at NZ International Wine Show
MUD HOUSE WINES WINS TWO TROPHIES AT THE NEW ZEALAND INTERNATIONAL WINE SHOW
The leading winery Mud House Wines has another two accolades to add to the awards cabinet, having received two Trophy Awards at this year’s New Zealand International Wine Show – New Zealand’s largest wine competition which attracted over 2000 entries. The Trophies were awarded for the 2008 Mud House Swan Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc and the 2008 Mud House Waipara Riesling. The Trophy winning wines are all gold medal winners in their respective classes, but have been singled out by the judges as being the best of the best.
The 2008 Swan Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc was up against 287 entries and took out the top prize for its intense passionfruit aromas and sweet, juicy, tropical fruit flavours with a shimmery, racy, citrussy edge and a pungent mouthfilling finish. The 2008 Waipara Riesling also came away with the top prize, beating 142 entries.
Mud House Wines CEO Baden Ngan Kee said the Trophy Awards were a tremendous honour and reflected the results of the winery’s implementation of a multi-regional strategy. “Clearly our success validates that strategy, along with the hard work and skill of the Mud House team.”
The awards build on a year of success for the winery, which struck two gold medals at the 17th Annual Indy International Wine Competition, one of the largest wine competitions in the United States. Other recent plaudits for Mud House Wines include 12 awards in the 2008 Pacific Rim Wine Competition and 16 medals in the 2008 Royal Easter Show.
“We have taken some important steps in the past year to develop our brand locally and internationally, and we are pleased that the quality of our wines is being recognized,” he said, pointing to the recruitment of several talented wine industry operators, including Chief Winemaker Ant Mackenzie, as examples of Mud House Wines’ growth.
“We will continue to work to create even better wines, and we hope to enjoy further awards success in the future.”
