Disorder in Otara
Police are interviewing a number of people in relation to a disturbance in the vicinity of Franich Street, Otara.
Witnesses indicate that just before 5.30pm a youth entered a liquor shop in Franich Street and a fight started with a number of other youths who followed him inside.
The fight spilled out onto the street and it appears a thrown fence paling struck a woman from the shop on the head. People going to the woman's assistance have become involved in the altercation and have received injuries, some possibly inflicted with a knife, some by blows.
At this stage four people have been taken to hospital, the most serious injury reported as being a stab wound to the leg of one of the men from the shop.
Police are presently visiting several known addresses in the area in an attempt to locate further participants in the brawl.
There is no indication at this stage that robbery was intended and due to the nature of the altercation and the number of participants and witnesses it will be some time before an accurate picture of events can be put together. No further media release should be anticipated this evening.
