Severe Winds causing traffic delays

Severe winds are making driving on Canterbury roads very dangerous and police advise motorists that they can expect delays on SHW 73 in the Springfield and Porters Pass areas.

State Highway 73 west of Springfield has traffic banked up due to trees and powerlines across the road.

The winds on Porters Pass are severe and police are enroute to reports of a truck being blown over.

Police advise motorists to stay away from this area.

Power lines are across the road on Pocock Road in Springfield and trees are across the road on Kowai Road in Springfield.

Power lines and trees are also across the road on Smith Road and Beachcroft Road in Leeston.
