NZU21 Squad for 2009 World Youth Cup named
The Emerging Talent selectors today named the NZU21 squad from which a team of twelve will be selected at the end of May 2009 to compete in the 2009 World Youth Cup.
The 17 person squad includes current Silver Fern Paula Griffin as well as two members of the winning 2005 World Youth Cup NZU21 side – Grace Rasmussen and Te Huinga Reo Selby-Rickit.
NZU21 coach Yvette McCausland-Durie says she has selected a very talented 17 strong squad.
“All players in this squad have now gained international playing experience over the last twelve months which is imperative heading into a World Youth Cup campaign. We have learnt a lot from the games we have been part of over last year and we have taken some key learning’s from those experiences. Now it’s time to build on those and take the next step up”, she said.
The NZU21 squad will begin the next phase of their World Youth Cup campaign with training camps in both December and January. From February to May the squad members will be involved in fortnightly regional training camps culminating with the final team announcement at the end of May.
