HAWKE'S BAY

A pedestrian is in serious condition in hospital after being hit by a car in the Hawkes Bay area at 5am this morning.

The male of unknown age was apparently standing on the road when he was struck by a north bound vehicle traveling towards Napier from Clive.

His reason for being on the road is not known at this stage.

The driver of the vehicle, who was unhurt, contacted emergency services and administered CPR until they arrived.

The matter is now in the hands of the Serious Crash Unit.

Motorists are advised that both lanes of State Highway 2 are closed from Farndon Road just north of Clive through to Awatoto.
