SH 26, closed earlier for an Armed Offender callout, has been reopened.

Police were called to the rural address just before 4.00pm by a woman who had been assaulted by her emotionally disturbed son. She had received a moderate head wound and had locked herself in a bedroom.

The man armed himself with a large hunting knife and refused to speak to police first on the scene.

The woman remained on the phone with a police call taker until she was able to make her way safely from the house shortly after Armed Offender Squad members arrived.

She was taken for treatment at a local medical centre.

Police negotiators spoke to the man for some time until he was eventually taken into custody at 6.30pm. The road was reopened once the address had been cleared.
