The Baby's Room Wellington awarded top honours for innovation

Quality Baby Things - that’s the philosophy behind award winning Wellington retail store, The Baby’s Room. The Baby’s Room was officially recognised as the most innovative retail store in the Wellington region last Friday, beating out 90 competitors to be awarded the Innovation Excellence in Retail award at the Top Shop Annual Awards on Friday 10 October, held by the New Zealand Retailers Association.

The innovative blend of iconic and beautiful gift ideas at The Baby’s Room was described by judges as ‘something very special’ with a key factor in the award being a carbon credit programme offered through The Baby’s Room to offset the carbon emissions of disposable nappies. The Baby’s Room is currently working towards certification as a carbon neutral business.

When asked why The Baby’s Room dared to open in such challenging economic times, store owner Andrew Clark commented ``The potential of such an exciting new retail concept underpinned by confidence in the value of The Baby’s Room brand created an opportunity that had to be seized’’. Brand values as reinforced through the impressive visual identity of The Baby’s Room include growth, family and convenience.

The success of The Baby’s Room since its April 2008 opening has been attributed to a combination of innovative factors including the integration of both brand led and product driven strategies supported by superior customer and supplier relationship management. Creative product and gift ideas include baby gift baskets, a gift delivery service and a special range of self-branded products.

The exceptional in store experience is extended to further innovations including: a social networking and ordering capability on Facebook, corporate gift service, mail and email order catalogue and a database driven programme focused on keeping The Baby’s Room connected with valued customers.
