Fatal motor accident in Wellington

At about 10pm tonight a car travelling south on SH1 has hit the motorway barrier. This happened before the Aotea Quay, above the Ferry terminal.
It appears that two people have been ejected from the car after it hit the barrier. The driver remained in the car and has been taken to Wellington Hospital with serious injuries.
One of the deceased people died up on the motorway while the second deceased person was thrown over the barrier onto the railway area near the ferry terminal, below the motorway.
No details of the deceased or injured driver are known at this stage. This information will be released by Wellington Police in the morning.
It is likely that SH1 will remain closed until about 3am while the scene is cleared and Serious Crash staff carry out a scene examination. Diversions are in place down the Old Hutt Road.
