The Police search for the missing pipeline worker and Niad boat in Pegasus Bay and Lyttelton has wound down for the night with no further progress.

A substantial area has now been searched.

A helicopter will be searching the shoreline tomorrow and then police will reassess the situation.

Search and rescue personnel are continuing to search for the pipeline worker who went missing from a workboat off the coast of Christchurch last night. There are currently eight Coastguard vessels two fishing vessels and two fixed wing aircraft searching an area extending from the Waimakariri River in the north to Godley Head and Little Akaroa in the south and from shore to approximately 12 miles to sea.
The search will be assessed at the end of the day.
