Stuff steak and Guinness, the boys are being catered for by the ultimate in Kiwi pies – mince and cheese, mince, and steak and cheese made with Tui beer.

The pies are made under licence by Goodtime Foods in Hawke’s Bay, with the Tui Brewery girls adding 6 per cent Tui into each masterpiece for good measure and flavour.

DB Breweries’ commercial manager Nick Rogers says pies are a Kiwi bloke’s best friend.

“We just thought it was time that Tui created the ultimate pie and to give this great kiwi feed the official Tui seal of approval. Tui will put some real attitude into the category.

“We’ll be selling Tui tucker in all good food outlets, supermarkets, bars and tuckshops across the country. With a dash of Tui, we know they will be hot property,” says Rogers.

Tuimato sauce was such a success earlier this year, and Rogers says pies are a natural next step.

Weighing in at 240g, and packed with meat, they are a serious bloke’s pie.

“As with Tuimato sauce, we have partnered with a Kiwi company to make something that really appeals to the Kiwi taste buds. Mince and cheese, mince, and steak and cheese account for 52 per cent of all the pies sold in NZ, and with the bonus of a splash of Tui, we know Tui pies will be a serious contender in the pie stakes. We gave Hawke’s Bay the first taste of Tui pies to honour the home of Tui and Goodtime Foods, the humble producers of Tui pies,” Rogers says.

Tui brand manager Jarrod Bear says pies are a national institution, and adding Tui to the mix makes perfect sense.

“Tui drinkers love their Tui, but they also love a pie. And our Tui pies are bloody good, and bloody big. Goodtime Foods have done a brilliant job. All they do is make pies and they make them using ingredients sourced only from New Zealand so you can trust they are the best,” says Bear.

Tui pies will retail for $4.00 at food outlets and Caltex service stations nationwide.
