Serious crash in Central District, 7:10am 29 Nov 2008

Police, Ambulance and Fire service personnel are currently at the scene of a serious crash on State Highway 3 at Marybank - just south of Wanganui.
Two cars with up to five occupants were involved. There are very serious injuries to at least 2 of the occupants of the cars and the road is expected to be closed for some time while the serious crash unit conduct a scene examination.
Detours through Fordell will be established shortly.

Incident type: Update on Wanganui crash

Police are now able to confirm that one person has been killed in the crash on State Highway 3 just south of Wanganui.
A female driver of one of the vehicles has been killed. At least 1 other occupant of one of the vehicles has also been seriously injured.
The road will remain closed - and detours in place - until a scene examination has been completed.
No further details regarding the deceased are available at this time.
The cause of the crash is not yet known.
